L1 Test Technician

Role
Reporting to the Supervisor, Test Department, the L1 Test Technician is responsible for Conduct electrical tests on core- coil assemblies of transformers, complete transformers, and related equipment, under supervision and guidance.
Role Responsibilities:
- Hooking up and connecting test leads and performing preliminary test on transformers
- Operating Transformer DTC and LTC switch
- Measuring and recording, testing results according to specified requirements for each test performed
- Performing parallel turn, turns ratio, polarity, magnetic balance, resistance, zinc oxide arrestor, core & clamp insulation, reactor, series transformer, booster transformer, potential transformer, and tap head tests, prepare and test results
- Taking oil samples from Transformers and recording oil information/prepare samples for shipment
- Attaching safety equipment to transformers as required
- Assisting in changing/re-configuring test equipment (capacitor banks, impulse generator, etc.) as directed
- Assisting Level 2 and Level 3 Test Technician in performing tests
- Ensuring all equipment is utilized in a safe and responsible manner
- Ensuring all safety equipment is in working condition and used as required to safely complete the job
- Assisting in conducting preventive maintenance activities on all required equipment/machinery critical to production in accordance with manufacturer and operational requirements and ISO 9001 requirements
- Ensuring all equipment utilized is within calibration dates
- Ensuring PCR book is signed and filled out in accordance to PTI Quality standards
Qualifications/Skills/Job Requirements:
- Graduate from a recognized Electrical Engineering Technologist course or equivalent; or two years’ experience in power transformer testing
- Basic knowledge of hand and power tool use
- Computer proficiency, knowledge of MS Excel, Word, Networking and PDF
- Experience in transformer testing, is an asset
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing, and work in a team environment
- Mechanical aptitude
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, sketches, and specifications
- Strong mathematical ability. Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Basic trigonometric knowledge (Calculate angles)
