L1 External Assembler

Role

Reporting to the Supervisor, External Assembly Department, the L1 External Assembler is responsible for performing the retrieval; assembly and installation of external components and auxiliary devices; and stripping of the unit in preparation for final inspection and shipping while ensuring adherence to all drawings throughout each step, under supervision and guidance.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Covering preparation and installation of all applicable components including but not limited to CT´s, GDR relay pipework, small bushings, connectors, gaskets, covers, gas seals, pre-fit tap gear and cover-mounted bushings
  • Conservator preparation and installation of all applicable components including but not limited to air and oil bags, float arm, Drycol breather and pipework, prismatic gauges, assorted valves and pipework, gaskets and covers
  • Tanking preparation and installation of all applicable components including but not limited to core packs, tank bands, auxiliary small parts, tap gears, control boxes and drives, headers, pumps and associated gauges and pipework, fiber optics, thermocouples
  • Tanking of unit, installation and connection of all applicable components
  • Transportation of the assembled unit to the testing area
  • Disassembling of the unit and preparation for shipping as per the shipping outline (TSL) and requirements
  • Skidding and jacking of transformer
  • Loading the unit and component onto railcars or trailers as directed
  • Completing work assignments to established practices and manufacturing instructions (MIs) specifications
  • Assisting with the process of expediting
  • Performing welding duties as required

Qualifications/Skills/Job Requirements:

  • Minimum Grade 12 Education or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Mechanical Aptitude
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, specifications, and bill of material including terms and abbreviations as required to complete work assignments is an asset
  • Ability to work in both metric and imperial dimensions
  • Basic mathematics knowledge. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing, and work in a team environment
