Electrical Designer

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Design medium to large power transformers (up to 600 MVA, 500 kV) for production and/or quotation that meet both
customer specifications and all applicable standards
• Design transformers for manufacturability and minimum cost within the established design parameters and performance characteristics
• Monitor the design throughout the process of manufacturing and final testing
• Provide completed data sheets for design reviews with customers, or for quotations and participate in design review meetings with customer/consultants
• Ensure correct application of sub-assemblies such as bushings, tap changers, reactors, and auxiliary transformers
• Adhere to the production schedule, meet the target dates for design outputs and manage multiple designs in various stages of production
• Conduct inspections on units during all stages of production, including winding and pre-tanking
• Investigate test problems, provide solutions, and prepare Engineering reports as needed
• Coordinate/communicate with suppliers for any technical issues and review test reports
• Contribute to improvement projects within the Engineering Department
• Comply with the Manitoba Workplace Health and Safety regulations
• Take reasonable care to protect oneself and others who may be affected by their actions or omissions
• Use all devices, clothing and personal protective equipment designated by PTI and by the regulations
• Co-operate with any other person exercising a duty imposed by the Workplace Safety and Health Act or the regulations
• Perform according to company’s certified ISO standards
Education/ Certifications
• Bachelor of Sciences Degree in Electrical Engineering
• Specialization in power systems/high voltage Engineering would be an asset
• Possess or working towards P.Eng. designation would be an asset
Experience/Knowledge
• Experience in in medium to large power transformer would be an asset
• Experience with transient voltage design software would be an asset
• Experience with electric field analysis would be an asset
• Experience working in a manufacturing environment would be an asset
• Computer literacy (Office Suite)

• Well-developed problem solving, communication and spatial visualization skills
• Excellent applied mathematical ability
• Ability to work individually and in a team environment
• Ability to effectively communicate with people from all departments of the organization (manufacturing floor & office)
• Strong time management and organizational skills
• Ability to obtain the following training as required: WHMIS, Fall Protection, Confined Spaces, Aerial Work Platform and other safe work training required for this position
